Notice: COVID-19 and Distance Learning – Jan 19 – 22

Wilburton Public Schools January 18, 2021 Notice: COVID-19 and Distance Learning Wilburton Public Schools (WPS) has been working diligently today with parents and the OSDH in an effort to contact trace and quarantine exposed students and staff. Also, WPS has COVID tests pending that could result in more student and staff quarantines. Our county has suffered its highest increase in COVID-19 numbers in the last few weeks and is continuing to experience an increased spread of the virus in the community. At this time, WPS feels the safest school option for our students, families, and community is distance learning. All WPS students will transition to distance learning tomorrow, Tuesday. January 19, and continue through Friday January 22. WPS will provide meals for our students for the rest of the week tomorrow Tuesday, January 19 using a drive-through pickup from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on the west side of the elementary auditorium. All WPS scheduled activities will be cancelled or postponed during this time also. Notice: COVID-19 Positive Case – January 15, 2021

WILBURTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEWS RELEASE

December 16, 2021
We have recently learned of a TikTok challenge that may take place on
Friday, December 17. It is our understanding that the challenge
encourages students to make threats of shootings, bomb threats and
violence against schools. These threats do not target any specific
school and there has not been any threats to any Latimer County School.
The Latimer County Sheriff’s Office, the Red Oak Police Department, the
Wilburton Police Department, and the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police are
aware of the social media challenge, and we are working with social
media outlets and schools directly. So, Friday December 17 you may see
increased security and law enforcement presence at schools. I employ
everyone not to overreact as there is no threats directed to our schools
at this time.
While we understand that this event is only a rumor, we also know that
social media is a powerful tool often used to influence others. It is
always important to remain vigilant when it involves these types of
threats and challenges.
