WILBURTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEWS RELEASE

December 16, 2021
We have recently learned of a TikTok challenge that may take place on
Friday, December 17. It is our understanding that the challenge
encourages students to make threats of shootings, bomb threats and
violence against schools. These threats do not target any specific
school and there has not been any threats to any Latimer County School.
The Latimer County Sheriff’s Office, the Red Oak Police Department, the
Wilburton Police Department, and the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police are
aware of the social media challenge, and we are working with social
media outlets and schools directly. So, Friday December 17 you may see
increased security and law enforcement presence at schools. I employ
everyone not to overreact as there is no threats directed to our schools
at this time.
While we understand that this event is only a rumor, we also know that
social media is a powerful tool often used to influence others. It is
always important to remain vigilant when it involves these types of
threats and challenges.
