On Saturday, September 28, the Purple Pride marching band competed at the Okmulgee Invitational held by Okmulgee High School. After morning preliminaries, the band won first in their division and received Outstanding Cologuard and Drumline for their division. The band made evening finals and were the first to perform. The Pride earned twelfth place overall at the competition. Other schools competing in finals included Glenpool, Poteau, Stigler, Eufaula, Checotah, and several others.
The band is under the direction of Kyle Littlejohn. Senior Emma is drum major. Senior Andrew is captain of the colorguard. Brittany is the colorguard coach. Senior Morgan is the drumline captain. The theme of this year’s show is Stevie Wonder. The band plays three selections: “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” “Tell Me Something Good,” and “Higher Ground.”
The band’s award-winning show can be seen at halftime of Friday night’s Pink Out game here in Wilburton. The band will travel to compete in Tishomingo this up-coming Saturday, October 5.
