On Saturday, October 5th, the Purple Pride competed in Tishomingo at the Chickasaw Band Festival. The Pride earned first place in their division. The marching band was ranked 16th out of 29 bands from across the state. The colorguard tied for 12th overall, and the drumline was ranked 8th overall.
The Purple Pride is under the direction of Kyle Littlejohn, and the drum major is senior Emma. The colorguard is coached by Brittany, and the colorguard captain is senior Andrew. The drumline captain is senior Morgan.
The marching band performed their show titled “Stevie Wonder” for competition. Their songs include “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” “Tell Me Something Good,” and “Higher Ground.” Freshman Haylee and 8th grader Madison have a saxophone duet during “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.” Junior Jordan has a trumpet solo in “Tell Me Something Good.” In “Higher Ground,” the drumline and colorguard are featured with senior Andrew making an impressive rifle toss.
The band will be performing their “Stevie Wonder” show at halftime in Atoka this Friday night and back on their home field on Thursday, October 17th, during the football game against Eufaula. The band will next compete in Regionals at McAlester on Wednesday, October 23rd. The band plans to continue their successful competition season by earning superior ratings at Regionals.
