Wilburton Public Schools Receives Generous Donation From Alumnus

Wilburton Public Schools is honored to announce that Mr. Ross Stivers, Wilburton alumnus
class of 1944, has through his estate donated $100,000 which will be used for a substantial
annual scholarship to a graduating senior. The Wilburton School Board and District
Superintendent Dr. Trice Butler received the notification from executor of Mr. Stivers’ estate
Larry Spradley, President of Community State Bank.

The Stivers family were longtime residents of Wilburton and operated the Stivers Variety Store
on Main Street. After graduating from Wilburton High School, Mr. Stivers continued his
education at Eastern Oklahoma State College, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and
Oklahoma State University. Mr. Stivers lived a life dedicated to education, teaching vocational
agriculture for many years at Howe Public Schools and later at Oklahoma Career Tech.

The recipient of the annual Ross Stivers scholarship will be determined by the Wilburton High
School Scholarship Committee, and applications for the $2500 scholarship are available in the
counselor’s office at Wilburton High School. In honor of Mr. Stivers’ lifelong dedication to
education, special consideration will be given to graduates seeking a career in education.
