Wilburton Public Schools Presents:

Student Alumni Spotlight

Rachel Skimbo Magaw – Class of 2006

I am a 2006 graduate of Wilburton High School. While in high school, I was a proud member of the women’s basketball team and yearbook staff. After graduation, I attended EOSC where I obtained an associates degree in business administration. I went on to attend East Central University. After transferring, I decided to pursue my childhood dreams of becoming a teacher.

While attending ECU, I met my husband, Chris. We had our first son, Tyler, in 2011. In the spring of 2013, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I accepted a job with McAlester Public School in the fall of 2013. I began my career by teaching 5th grade language arts and 6th grade science, social studies, and language arts. In 2015, we welcomed our youngest son, Taylor, to the world. I am currently still employed by MPS teaching 5th grade science.

Over the past few years of my career, I have had the honor of being nominated as  teacher of the year to represent my building in our district’s TOY process. I proudly serve as a 5th grade team leader and on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council in my district. I have had the privilege of working with OKSDE on numerous occasions by serving on the Cognitive Complexity and TIS Review Committee, Grade 5 Item Review Committee, and the Item/Bias Review Committee.

I am passionate about public education and hope to one day become a principal.
