"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."  Helen Keller

Fall is finally in the air, and that means change. There is also a "change" in the air at Wilburton Public Schools. At our all-school pep rally before our first football game, Coach Marshall demonstrated to all of us what it takes to "get the tire moving." It takes all of us pushing TOGETHER. How exciting it has been watching this happen at the start of the 2016-17 school year, at all sites, at all levels, with everyone involved--students, teachers, staff, parents, alumni, and community members.

Take a trip to Wilburton Elementary, and one will see a major construction site happening. The beautiful new classroom building is well on its way to completion within the next few months. Yet with all of these noises and distractions, just across the street it is school at its best for our PreK-5th graders. When one walks down the hall, there are smiles, hugs, singing, instruments playing, books being read, basketball practices, creative learning, and tremendous cooperation happening. Amazing! The "tire is moving."

Wilburton Middle School continues to be one of the top middle schools in Oklahoma, andthey are creating new ways to keep it that way. New technology even in the hallways and cafeteria have expanded the opportunity for students to enjoy learning in unexpected ways and areas. The all-school newspaper is now produced by a journalism class there. The Engineering Technology curriculum has broadened to incorporate the many different talents of the faculty. Plus, a challenging course offering has been added to further enhance our WMS Oklahoma State Champion Academic Team. Oh yes, that Digger "tire" is rolling along!

And at WHS, I am so proud to say that I have never had so many compliments on what is happening there and in all areas. From the yearbook staff, to the library, to the English classes, to the Bandroom, to one of Oklahoma's best fast-pitched softball teams in 3A, and on and on, everyone is involved. I urge you to attend a football game. Yes, you will see a 4 and 0 undefeated football team and its great coaches, but you will also see an awarding winning band, an awesome cheerleading squad, dedicated sponsors and students working two concessions stands, the yearbook staff taking pictures, Vo-Ag students and sponsor grilling sandwiches, a math teacher announcing, other coaches keeping the clock, students raising our Flag, and others volunteering their time to showcase our students. And at the end of the game, I want to encourage you to stay in the stands and be a part of our new tradition where, led by the football team and the band, Everyone comes together to sing the school song! Congratulations Wilburton High School!
"Together we can do so much."
